So, what is erectile dysfunction? Erectile dysfunction is defined as a condition in which a man is unable to have satisfactory erections. Erectile dysfunction is most common in men 60 and older but can affect any age for any number of reasons.
Erectile dysfunction symptoms can include:
The ability to have an erection is actually a very complex process, but the most important part of that process is adequate blood flow to the penis. Erectile dysfunction often is caused by decreased blood flow to the erectile tissue. Diabetes is the other main cause of erectile dysfunction. Diabetes affects the small nerves and blood vessels that help provide erections. So, controlling or preventing heart disease and/or diabetes would help prevent or improve erectile dysfunction.
Men with erectile dysfunction will often have inter-relational issues with their partners because of the inability to perform. Accordingly, these men should be seen by a urologist, as we have some excellent treatment options for them.
